This viewer supports email files from various sources:
EML is a standard email file format (RFC 822/2822) used by many email clients including Thunderbird, Windows Mail, and Apple Mail. Each EML file contains a single email message with all its headers, body text, and encoded attachments.
MSG is Microsoft Outlook's proprietary email format. It stores a single email message and is commonly used when saving or exporting emails from Outlook. MSG files contain the email body, headers, attachments, and Outlook-specific metadata.
In Gmail, open the email you want to save, click the three-dot menu in the top right, and select "Download message". This will download the email as an EML file. Alternatively, use Google Takeout to export all emails in MBOX format, which can be viewed with our MBOX viewer.
Yes, your email data is completely secure. All file processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your email files are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy for your personal communications.
The viewer detects and lists attachments within emails, showing filename, type, and size information. Full attachment extraction is limited for security reasons, but you can see metadata about all attachments in the email.
EML is an open standard format readable by most email clients, while MSG is Microsoft's proprietary format specific to Outlook. EML files are text-based and easier to parse, while MSG files are binary and contain Outlook-specific features. Both formats store single email messages.
