AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is an open, royalty-free format from the Alliance for Open Media, built on the AV1 video codec. It is often about 50% smaller than JPEG and around 20% smaller than WebP at similar quality.
It supports HDR, wide colour, transparency and animation. When someone cannot open it, send them a copy made with AVIF to JPG or check the file first in the AVIF Analyzer.

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. Files are typically about 50% smaller than JPEG at the same quality, and it supports transparency, animation, HDR and wide colour.
For compression, usually yes - AVIF is often 20-30% smaller than WebP at similar quality. WebP encodes faster and works in a few more older apps.
