This viewer supports MBOX files from various email clients and services:
MBOX is a file format for storing email messages. It's commonly used by Gmail (Google Takeout), Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and many Unix-based mail systems. Each message is stored sequentially in a single file, making it easy to archive and transfer email collections.
Use Google Takeout (takeout.google.com) to export your Gmail data. Select "Mail" from the list of products, choose MBOX format, and download. The resulting archive will contain your emails in MBOX format that can be viewed here.
Yes, your email data is completely secure. All file processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your MBOX files are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy for your personal communications.
The viewer detects and lists attachments within emails, showing filename, type, and size information. Full attachment extraction and preview is limited for security reasons, but you can see metadata about all attachments in your archive.
The viewer can handle MBOX files up to 50MB efficiently. Larger files may take longer to process and could cause performance issues in your browser depending on available memory. For very large archives, consider splitting them into smaller files.
MBOX files contain multiple email messages in a single file, while EML files contain a single email message each. This viewer supports both formats. MBOX is better for archiving entire mailboxes, while EML is useful for individual message exports.
