Start with a perfectly square image for best results. Non-square images will be cropped or padded.
Use at least 512×512 pixels to ensure crisp icons on all devices including high-DPI screens.
Keep your favicon design simple with high contrast. Details get lost at small sizes.
PNG with transparency produces the best results. SVG also works great for vector graphics.
Different browsers, devices, and operating systems look for specific favicon files and sizes. A complete package ensures your icon appears correctly everywhere—from browser tabs to iOS home screens to Windows Start menu tiles.
We recommend starting with a 512×512 pixel square image or larger. This ensures high quality when scaled down to smaller sizes. The tool can work with smaller images, but quality may suffer for larger icon sizes.
The site.webmanifest file is a JSON configuration that tells browsers about your web app, including its name, icons, and theme colors. It's essential for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and the "Add to Home Screen" feature on Android devices.
The browserconfig.xml file is used by Windows 8/10/11 to configure pinned sites and tile appearance. It specifies which images to use for various tile sizes and the background color for your site's tile.
For maximum compatibility, we recommend including all files. However, at minimum you need: favicon.ico in your root directory and apple-touch-icon.png for iOS devices. The other files enhance the experience on specific platforms.
