How to Convert GIF to PDF

  1. Upload your GIF files. Drag and drop one or more GIF files into the box above. You can mix animated and static GIFs - the tool detects frame counts automatically.
  2. Pick a frame mode. "First frame only" works for static-style PDFs of animated GIFs. "All frames" turns every frame into its own page. "Every Nth frame" is great for trimming long animations down. "Contact sheet" packs many frames onto one grid page.
  3. Choose page size and layout. A4, US Letter, Legal, A3, A5, B5, or "Fit to image" if you want the page to match the GIF's pixel size. Set orientation (auto detects best per page), margins, and how the image fits inside the margins.
  4. Set the background and quality. Pick a background color for transparent GIF areas. Choose High, Standard, or Smallest quality - all use JPEG compression inside the PDF for great size-to-quality balance.
  5. Click "Create PDF". The server combines frames into a clean PDF. Single GIF gives one PDF. Multiple GIFs give either a combined PDF or a ZIP of separate PDFs - your call. Need to shrink it further? Try our PDF Compressor next.
Pro tip: For long animations, "Every Nth frame" with N = 3 or 5 cuts page count dramatically while keeping the visual story intact. Or use contact sheet mode to fit a full preview on a single page.

GIF vs PDF Format

GIF

Animated bitmap format limited to 256 colors per frame with 1-bit transparency. Universal browser support and the de facto standard for short loops, reactions, and memes. Other useful tools: Compress GIF, Resize GIF, or convert to WebM for much smaller files.

PDF

Portable Document Format - the universal standard for documents that print and share consistently across devices. Each PDF page can hold a single frame, a contact sheet of many frames, or anything in between. Combine multiple PDFs with PDF Merger, shrink them with Compress PDF, or split them with PDF Splitter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Up to 20 GIFs per batch, 50 MB per file, 200 MB total. For multi-file batches you can output a combined PDF (file order = page order) or a ZIP of separate PDFs. Need to merge many existing PDFs? Use our PDF Merger instead.

No - PDF does not support animation natively. Instead, we turn each frame into its own PDF page (with "All frames" mode), so the full animation is preserved as a flip-book style sequence. To keep motion in another format, try GIF to MP4 or GIF to WebM instead.

First frame only: grabs frame 1 only - great when you just need a static image of the GIF. All frames: one page per frame, perfect for archival or flip-book PDFs. Every Nth frame: samples regularly to trim page count (e.g. take every 5th frame of a 100-frame GIF for 20 pages). Frame range: exports a specific window like frames 10-30. Contact sheet: tiles many frames on a single page in a 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 grid - ideal for previews or storyboards.

For printing, match the paper you'll use - A4 in most of the world, US Letter in North America. For screen-only viewing or archiving, "Fit to image" makes the page exactly match the GIF's pixel size (at 150 DPI), avoiding empty margins. A3 is great for poster-sized output, A5 for compact handouts, B5 for booklets.

PDF inside doesn't use the same transparency model as GIF, so transparent pixels get composited onto your chosen background color (white by default, but you can pick any color or use the cream/black/gray presets). For graphics with see-through areas you'd like preserved, consider GIF to PNG sequence instead - PNG keeps alpha intact.

The estimator next to the convert button gives a live rough estimate. Real factors: number of frames included, page size, and quality setting. "Smallest" uses JPEG 65 inside the PDF (much smaller, still good for most viewing). "Standard" uses JPEG 82 (default), and "High" uses JPEG 92 for archival/print work. To shrink an already-made PDF, run it through our PDF Compressor.

All uploaded GIFs and generated PDFs auto-delete from our server within 4 hours. We do not store, share, or analyze your files. No account is required. Files are processed in isolated temporary directories that get cleaned up automatically.
