How to View a 7Z File Online

  1. Upload your 7Z file by dragging it onto the upload area, or click to browse your device. The archive is read in your browser using WebAssembly.
  2. Browse the contents by clicking folders or using the breadcrumb trail. Use the search bar to find files by name.
  3. Preview supported files (text, code, images) inline by clicking on them - no download needed.
  4. Download individual files using the download icon next to each entry, or click Extract All as ZIP to grab everything in one archive.

If you have a ZIP, RAR, or TAR file instead of a 7Z, head to our Archive Viewer hub which routes you to the right tool. Want to bundle files yourself? Try the Archive Creator.

About the 7Z Format

7Z is an open-source archive format developed by Igor Pavlov for the 7-Zip utility. It uses LZMA and LZMA2 compression algorithms which typically achieve significantly better compression ratios than ZIP, making it popular for software distribution, game mods, and large source code archives.

Common encounters with 7Z files include:

  • Downloads from open-source projects (compilers, libraries, dev tools)
  • Game modding packs on Nexus, ModDB, and similar sites
  • Software installers that compress better than ZIP or MSI
  • Backup archives where small file size matters
  • Source code releases on SourceForge and GitHub mirrors

If you also work with images packaged inside archives, you may find these useful: EXE Icon Extractor pulls icons out of Windows executables, and DLL Icon Extractor does the same for DLLs. For raw image inspection, see our File Viewers hub.

The viewer handles archives up to 500 MB comfortably in modern browsers. Larger files may work but parsing can be slow depending on your device memory. For very large archives, the file list loads quickly even if extraction takes longer.

Yes - if the archive is encrypted, you will be prompted for the password before the file list is displayed. The password stays in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere.
