Tips for small, sharp GIFs

Keep it short. 2-6 seconds is the sweet spot - every second adds frames.

Crop to the action. A tight crop keeps the details big and the file small.

Steady shots compress best. Unchanged areas are stored once, so a still background costs almost nothing.

Boomerang loops are seamless. Great for reactions - no jump at the loop point.

Try WebP for colourful clips. Sunsets and skin tones band in 256 colours - animated WebP keeps them smooth at a fraction of the size.

MP4 (H.264), WebM and most MOV files work in all modern browsers. HEVC/H.265, AVI, MKV and WMV only work if your browser can play them - if not, convert the clip first with MOV to MP4, MKV to MP4 or AVI to MP4.
