Why Tenor GIFs save as MP4 or WebP - and how to get a real .gif
Tenor rarely shows you an actual GIF file.
To load faster, its website and apps play MP4 videos or WebP images, so a right-click or long-press saves one of those instead.
This downloader reads every version Tenor stores and labels each one, so you can pick GIF - HD and get a true animated .gif that loops by itself.

Save a Tenor GIF as MP4 for WhatsApp or Instagram
For chats and social apps, the MP4 option is usually the better choice.
WhatsApp plays GIFs as short looping videos anyway, and an MP4 is often 5-10 times smaller than the same GIF. It is marked WhatsApp, Instagram in the list of formats.
Instagram does not accept .gif uploads, so post the MP4 instead. Have a GIF already? Make an MP4 from it with GIF to MP4.
Tenor GIFs for Discord: size limits
Discord limits uploads to 20 MB on free accounts.
Every format here shows its size, and anything over 20 MB gets a warning badge. A custom server emoji must be under 256 KB, and a sticker under 512 KB.
