QR Code Scanner

Scan a QR code or barcode with your camera, or from a screenshot, photo or file - free, and nothing is uploaded.

It reads every code in a picture, reveals where short links really go, and turns WiFi, contacts and events into one-tap buttons. Need your own code? Make one with the QR Code Generator, or find out why a code fails with the QR Code Checker.

How to Scan a QR Code Online

    1. Start the camera or add an image. Press Start camera and point it at the code, or upload, drop or paste a screenshot or photo.
    2. Hold steady. Keep the whole code and its white border in view. The scanner reads it the moment it can - no button to press.
    3. Check what it holds. See the real site name and any safety warnings, or the WiFi, contact or event details.
    4. Use it. Open the link, copy the password, save the contact or event, or restyle the code in the generator.

On a computer, the quickest way is a screenshot: press Win + Shift + S (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + 4 (Mac), then paste it here with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.

    Spot a Fake QR Code

"Quishing" - phishing with QR codes - is on the rise: stickers placed over real codes on parking meters, menus and posters send people to copycat payment pages. The scanner checks every link for the usual tricks:

    Short links

bit.ly and friends hide the real destination. Fine for posters you trust - a reason to pause on a parking meter.

    Look-alike names

"аpple.com" with a Cyrillic а looks real but is not. We flag these lookalike addresses.

    Hidden addresses

Links like bank.com@other.site really go to the part after the @ sign.

    Payments and downloads

Payment pages, app files and crypto addresses get a warning, because they cannot be undone.

When in doubt, type the company's address yourself instead of following the code. Got a suspicious image attachment too? Check what kind of file it really is with the Image Format Detector.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Click Upload image, drop the picture on the scanner, or simply paste it with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). This works for screenshots, photos, PDFs you saved as images and codes inside emails.

Photo from an iPhone in HEIC format? Convert it first with HEIC to JPG.

Scanning itself is safe - the danger is where a code takes you. Fake codes stuck over real ones in car parks and restaurants lead to look-alike payment pages.

That is why this scanner never opens anything by itself. It shows the real site name first and warns you about short links, look-alike letters, hidden addresses, app downloads and payment requests.

No. Our own QR engine runs inside your browser, so camera frames and images never leave your device. Scan history is kept only in this browser, and you can switch it off or clear it at any time.

The usual reasons: the photo is blurry, the white border around the code is cut off, there is glare on glossy paper, or the colours have too little contrast.

Try a sharper photo with the whole code in view. For a tiny or blurry code, enlarge it first with the Image Upscaler. To find out exactly what is wrong, open it in the QR Code Checker.

Every standard QR code (version 1 to 40, inverted and mirrored too), Micro QR codes, and the common 1D barcodes: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E and Code 128, including GS1-128 shipping labels.

Links, WiFi, contacts, events, SEPA and Swiss payment codes, ISBN book numbers and product codes all get their own buttons. Saved contacts and events open in your phone or in our VCF File Viewer and ICS File Viewer.

Yes. Upload a photo of a sheet of labels, a poster or a screenshot with several codes and every one is read and numbered on the picture. Tap a number to see that code, or copy all of them at once and save them as a CSV list.

Need to make a batch of codes yourself? The QR Code Generator turns a CSV list into a ZIP of codes.

Short links like bit.ly hide their destination. When a code holds one, the scanner asks it where it leads - following every redirect - and shows each step and the final site before you open anything.

Any other link can be checked with one click too. Only the link itself is checked by our server; your image stays on your device.

Your browser asks for permission the first time - choose Allow. If you blocked it before, click the camera or lock icon in the address bar and allow the camera for this site.

On a computer without a camera, use Upload image or paste a screenshot instead.
