How to convert RAR to ZIP

  1. Drop your RAR files. Drop one or more .rar files on the page. 7Z, TAR.GZ and other archives work too.
  2. Check the settings. ZIP is picked for you. Change the compression, add a password or skip junk files if you like.
  3. Convert. Press Convert to ZIP. Every file is unpacked and packed again as a ZIP, folders and dates included.
  4. Download. One or two ZIP files download straight away. For more, download them one by one or all together.

Got a .7z file instead? The 7Z to ZIP converter is the same tool tuned for 7-Zip archives.

Why use this RAR to ZIP converter

Opens everywhere

The ZIP opens with a double-click in Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, iPhone Files and Android.

A whole batch

Drop ten RARs and get ten ZIPs, each named after its RAR - or all of them in one download.

Nothing shuffled

Folders, file names and modified dates come across exactly, empty folders included.

Lock it if you like

Add an AES-256 password to the new ZIP, or ZipCrypto when it must open in Windows Explorer.

Or go smaller

Switch the output to 7Z and the converted archive is often smaller than the RAR.

Private and safe

Nothing is uploaded, unsafe paths are cleaned and disguised programs are flagged.

Sharing with someone who has never heard of WinRAR? Send a ZIP. Archiving for yourself? A 7Z saves the most space.

Locked and split RAR files

Encrypted RAR files cannot be decrypted by a browser yet.

Open them with WinRAR or 7-Zip on a computer, then pack the files again with the Archive Creator. The RAR File Viewer still lists what is inside a locked RAR.

Split sets such as .part1.rar and .r00 convert what part 1 holds. Split ZIP and 7Z sets (.001, .z01) are joined for you - or rejoin any file with the File Joiner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Drop the RAR file on this page and press Convert to ZIP. Every file inside is unpacked in your browser and packed again as a ZIP with the same folders, names and dates.

The ZIP downloads as soon as it is ready - no WinRAR needed.

ZIP is the one archive format every device opens on its own. Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, iPhone, Android and Chromebooks unzip ZIP files with a double-click, while RAR needs WinRAR, 7-Zip or a recent Windows 11 update.

ZIP is also what most upload forms, email filters and online services expect.

Often a little, because RAR usually compresses better than ZIP. Photos, videos and music barely change, text and documents can grow by 10-30%.

The tool shows the exact size before and after for every file. Want it small? Pick 7Z as the output, or use ZIP to 7Z later.

Not yet. Browsers cannot decrypt RAR encryption, so a locked RAR has to be opened with WinRAR or 7-Zip on a computer. You can still see its file list in the RAR File Viewer.

Locked ZIP and 7Z files do work - type the password when asked.

RAR4 and RAR5 archives convert fine, solid ones included.

Multi-part sets (.part1.rar, .part2.rar or .rar, .r00) cannot be joined in the browser, so only files stored completely in the first part are converted. Join the parts with WinRAR or 7-Zip first for the full set.

Yes. Select or drop them all together and each RAR becomes its own ZIP with the same name.

One or two ZIP files download straight away; with more you get a list of download buttons plus Download all as ZIP.

No. The RAR is unpacked and the ZIP is built by your browser with JavaScript and WebAssembly, so nothing leaves your device.

That makes it safe for private documents, work files and photos.

Yes. The ZIP has the same folder structure, file names and modified dates as the RAR, and empty folders are kept too unless you switch that off.

Junk files such as __MACOSX and Thumbs.db stay in unless you turn on Skip junk files. Still having trouble? Please contact us and we'll be happy to help!
