How to convert CBR and CBZ to PDF

  1. Add your comics. Drop one or more CBR, CBZ, CB7 or CBT files. Every page is listed with a thumbnail.
  2. Drop pages you do not need. Click a thumbnail to leave it out - ads, scanner credits or blank pages.
  3. Choose the PDF settings. Keep the original images for the best quality, or pick a page size, JPEG quality and max width for a smaller file.
  4. Convert. Press Convert to PDF. One or two PDFs download directly; more arrive together in one ZIP.

Want to flip through the comic before converting? Open it in the CBR Viewer - its Convert to PDF button sends it straight here.

Why use this converter

No quality loss

JPEG pages are copied into the PDF as they are - the same bytes, the same sharpness.

A whole series at once

Drop twenty issues and get twenty PDFs, neatly packed in one ZIP.

Drop the extras

Leave out scanner credits, ads and blank pages with one click per thumbnail.

Smaller when you want

JPEG quality, max width and grayscale shrink big scans for phones and e-readers.

Manga ready

Reverse the page order for right-to-left reading in any PDF app.

Private

Converted in your browser - your comic collection never touches a server.

Which page size should I pick?

For reading on a screen, keep Original.

SettingBest forWhat happens
OriginalTablets, PCs, comic appsEach PDF page is the size of its image. Double-page spreads stay wide.
A4Printing in EuropePages are fitted onto A4, wide spreads turn to landscape. Add margins for the printer.
LetterPrinting in the USThe same on 8.5 x 11 inch paper.
One widthScrolling PDF readersEvery page gets the width of the first one, so scans of mixed sizes scroll smoothly.

Comics on a Kindle, Kobo or iPad

E-readers love PDF, and grayscale suits e-ink screens.

For a Kindle or Kobo, try the E-reader preset: grayscale, 1600 px wide and JPEG quality 75 - fast to page through and a fraction of the size. On an iPad or Android tablet, the default settings look best.

Too big to email? Squeeze the result with Compress PDF, or check it first in the PDF Viewer.

CBR, CBZ and the rest

Comic book files are archives of page images.

A CBR is a RAR archive, a CBZ a ZIP, a CB7 a 7-Zip archive and a CBT a TAR. Want the images instead of a PDF? Unpack them with the Archive Extractor, or turn a CBR into a CBZ with RAR to ZIP.

Locked CBZ comics can be unlocked here with their password, and you can lock your own with Password Protect ZIP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Drop the .cbr file on this page and press Convert to PDF. Every page becomes one PDF page, in the same order as in the comic.

The default settings keep the original images, so the PDF looks exactly like the comic.

Not with the default settings. JPEG pages are copied into the PDF byte for byte and PNG pages stay lossless.

Quality only changes when you choose Re-encode, a max width or grayscale to make the file smaller.

Kindle, Kobo, most tablets and every printer understand PDF, but few know comic archives. A PDF also opens in any browser and is easy to email or print.

To just read a comic, the CBR Viewer opens it without converting.

Pick the Smaller file preset or switch Image quality to Re-encode and lower the slider, then set a max width such as 1600 px. That usually cuts the size by half or more.

Already have a big PDF? Run it through Compress PDF.

Yes. Set Reading order to Right to left and the pages are reversed, so a PDF reader that turns left to right shows them in manga order.

Most comic readers that open PDFs also have their own right-to-left switch.

Yes. Drop a whole series and each comic becomes its own PDF. One or two PDFs download directly, three or more arrive in one ZIP.

Want them as one book? Combine the PDFs afterwards with Merge PDF.

No. The comic is unpacked and the PDF is written by your browser, so nothing leaves your device.

The Recent PDFs list is kept in your own browser for 14 days and can be cleared any time.

Usually the download was cut short, the RAR is password protected (browsers cannot decrypt those yet) or the comic is split into several parts. Locked CBZ and CB7 files work - you are asked for the password.

Damaged CBZ files can often be fixed with ZIP Repair first. Still having trouble? Please contact us and we'll be happy to help!
