How to Make a WhatsApp Sticker from a GIF

  1. Add your GIFs. Drop GIFs, MP4s, WebP or PNG files, browse for them or paste with Ctrl+V - or paste a Tenor, GIPHY or X link.
  2. Fit and trim. Pick Fit, Fill or Pad and choose the part of each clip to use. The live preview shows the 512 x 512 sticker.

Make a WhatsApp Sticker from a Photo

Add the Sticker Pack to WhatsApp

WhatsApp does not import sticker files on its own.

The .wastickers file in your download is the standard pack format that sticker apps understand.

  1. Copy the .wastickers file to your phone, or download the pack there directly.
  2. Install a sticker maker app that imports .wastickers files - search your app store for “wastickers”.
  3. Open the file with that app, or import it inside the app, and tap Add to WhatsApp.
  4. Open any chat, tap the sticker icon and your new pack is in the tray.

Static WhatsApp stickers have a smaller 100 KB limit, which is why GIFs always become animated stickers here. Photo stickers are static: 512 x 512 WebP, 100 KB or less.

Fit, Fill or Pad?

Most GIFs are wider than they are tall, but a WhatsApp sticker is always square.

Fit

The whole picture, as big as it fits, with transparent space above and below.

Best for reaction GIFs where everything in the frame matters.

Fill

Fills the whole square and crops the edges.

Best when the action is in the middle. For a hand-picked crop, use the GIF Cropper first.

Pad

The whole picture with a margin all around it.

Gives stickers a tidy, consistent look in the tray - 16 px suits most packs.

Background

Transparent by default, so the chat shows through.

Pick white, black or any colour to make a solid sticker instead.

Tips for Great Animated Stickers

A few small choices make stickers look sharper and load faster.

  • Start on the punchline. WhatsApp shows the first frame when the animation stops, so pick a Start point where the picture tells the whole joke.
  • Short loops look best. 2 to 4 seconds keeps the file small and the quality high. Trim frames precisely with the GIF Cutter.
  • Cut out the background. Stickers without a box around them feel native - try the GIF Background Remover.
  • Add a caption. Put text on the GIF first with Add Text to GIF, then make the sticker.
